You maybe in a dilemma choosing the appropriate theme for the nursery you are so excitedly planning for the new little man who is arriving. A great way to get decorating inspiration is to start with the bed and go from there. if you have no idea of theme for your bedding, here are a some ideas.
Typically, boys prefer bold colors, so this can be a good place to begin when buying bedding for your child. Don’t be afraid that it may be tacky – strong colors can be very fashionable. A fine model of baby bedding is Trend Lab’s brown and blue Prep School Blue crib bedding. Caramel, chocolate, blue and white are some of the colors included.
A theme that is popular with both genders is animal themes; but the specific animal depends on the gender of the baby. When it comes to animals on the bedding, girls prefer baby chicks and bunny rabbits, while boys want bigger wild animals, like lions and tigers. A Noah’s Ark theme may be fun for a younger boy, although a jungle theme may remain age appropriate for a longer amount of time.
Another great choice for your son’s nursery is a cowboy motif. After all, what boy has not daydreamed of being a cowboy? Cowboy themes allow for many choices and use a variety of fabrics such as leather, ultra suede and denim and prints like plaids to lend authenticity. As well, you will frequently notice sheriff’s stars, horses, and wagons notably depicted in these baby bedding crib sets. When you choose baby blankets in a cowboy theme, the most popular fabrics are fleece and flannel.
Sports are popular with most men, including boys. You can get specific team sets, although usually the team is the favorite of the parents’, not the child. You can get sports-related bedding sets that have pictures of baseballs, footballs or soccer balls. A general sports theme may be the right preference for your son to enjoy in his growing years, as you are unaware of his possible choice of team or sports as he grows in years.
If your intention is to have more than one child, there is another way to buy infant bedding. Rather than going with a masculine theme for the nursery, try to utilize a non gender specific motif that can be reused for your next baby. When a child reaches the toddler years and starts to have distinct ideas of their own, you will be able to choose a room theme then. If you are not sure whether the baby will be a boy or a girl or simply prefer it not to be gender specific, then go with a neutral pattern such as geometric shapes, alphabet and numbers or cartoon characters similar to Winnie the Pooh.
Give a nice thought prior to buying baby boy bedding. Nursery bedding which contains frills might be acceptable for a baby boy, however, if you are going to continue using it as he ages up through pre school it will becomes too feminine and inappropriate. Many cribs now convert to toddler beds as they use the same standard size crib mattress. Keep this in mind when purchasing bedding as you will want it to last more than a few years.
