August 30th, 2009A Marketer Makes the Money
Sometimes it’s funny to think that it times of economic trouble companies decide to cut back on marketing costs to save money. I was messing around a while back and came across an article entitled “how to make blog money.” The post had a commonly used phrase that relates to this article… Don’t bite the hand that feeds you…
The problem with downsizing is that when you reduce your marketing efforts your sales will inevitably decrease as a result.
The problem with laying people off is that once you start its hard to stop because the action can have a snowball effect that may result in the bankruptcy of a business. If I was just searching for how to make money opportunities, I might downplay the marketing issue and try to focus this article on sales and lead generation. At this point, every CEO of a major company in the world today is scratching their head trying to figure out ways to avoid pink slips.
The marketing function is vital to the continued success of a healthy growing business. With the economic environment the way it is, every company should realize that sales and cash flow are going to be what gets them out of this crisis.Any type of promotion should help at this point, spend a few dollars getting your sales staff new small color business cards, they will thank you for it and probably be more productive because they know they have your full support.
Make cash flow a number one priority by offering incentives for increased performance and bonuses for bringing in new clients. These days if you can survive in these types of conditions, you will thrive when the world economy improves. If you can be successful in an economic recession when the tides turn, you’re company will have a strategic advantage over many of your competitors.
